And just like that, I'm 30! When we started thinking of where to go for my bday a few weeks before, a few friends of mine highly recommended Japan. The trip developed pretty quickly, but luckily i was able to find a great deal on Expedia on flight and hotel.

We flu Delta nonstop out of LAX and into Haneda, which is the closest airport to Tokyo, although you can also fly into Narita as well but it is a bit further out.

We stayed at the beautiful Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo, perfect location to Shinjuku Station which gets you EVERYWHERE. The hotel is gorgeous!

Shinjuku, Tokyo - located 10 minutes from our hotel

We took a half day tour around Tokyo on our first full day. We went by coach which was perfect because it was rainy and windy, but that didn't stop us from exploring! And the city didn't stop for rain either. We saw ceremonies at the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, had some street vendor food ( not included with the tour), viewed the Emperors Palace from the outside as it was closed that day :( and visited Tokyo Tower. It was the perfect tour to give us a feel for the city and see everything from the comfort of a coach. We purchased the tour on Viator, link here.

The following days we wandered through the streets of Tokyo, stopping at every cafe and restaurant that caught our eyes (food post to follow).

Harajuku, Tokyo

There are soooo many awesome vintage shops in Tokyo, the one below is a Chanel lovers dream! Amore Vintage.

On one of our last days we took a food walking tour of Tsukiji Fish Market with FooDrink Tour. We didn't wake up super early for breakfast sushi at Sushi Dai. But we loved Tokyo so much we will plan it in the trip next time :).

On the tour we had, a fish cake, traditional Japanese omelette, a green tea, and a yummy sushi lunch. The tour was so much fun and very informative. We had plenty of time after our sushi lunch ending to explore the market on our own.

We were so lucky to be there during the one week a year the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. It was the cherry on top of my birthday cake ;)

Tip: Get a portable wifi at the airport when you land. I guess in years passed people had to reserve the wifi's online, but now you can just show up at the airport and pick one up. There are multiple wifi renters in the airport, we used Global Wifi. Beleieve me, it will be a life saver! If it wasn't for that wifi and being able to use google maps, we would be a lost. Although the people are extremely helpful and nice, it is still best to have your own navigation.

Also, there are NO trash cans. I repeat NO trash cans. The streets are extremely clean, having no trash cans makes people keep their trash until they see one, usually at 7-11. The 7-11's are also really helpful, they all have ATM's which you can use safely. The 7-11's are nice and clean (everything is clean in Tokyo).

If you have any questions or need additional tips please ask!

This was the most amazing birthday week, a million thanks to my boyfriend for taking time off during his busy tax season <3.
