Ahh home of the pizza! From Rome we took a train straight to Naples, the ride was about 2 hours. This could be a quick day trip from Rome if you want to just walk around and have dinner here, it is totally possible.
Once off the train, we took a cab straight to the hotel. We stayed at Correra 241 Hotel, its very cute and colorful (unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the room or hotel :( ). Everyone was really nice, the hotel had a gate out from which was locked after a certain hour but we could get buzzed in at any hour. The hotel was in a small little street where it was mainly locals in the area. It was very dark at night as there were hardly any street lights but still bright enough to get around. The hotel was maybe 20 yards away from the main street Via Enrico Pessia, which turns in to Via Toledo. The metro was also just a 5 minute walk from the hotel so everything was at arms reach.
Like I said, this is home of the pizza, so we had a lot of pizza. Our first night we also ate at a buffet style restaurant where you paid for food by the weight of your plate, L'Etto. Everything was made from scratch, in a cute cafe style restaurant with plenty of our door seating for people watching.
L'Etto: note, if you are in Italy, and zucchini blossoms are in season, always order them. So yummy! These were stuffed with a cheese blend that included ricotta.
On our first day we took a trip to Pompeii. We did that on our own, no tour. We took the same metro where we were dropped off from Rome straight to Pompeii. To get around Pompeii and learn about what we were seeing we listened to Rick Steve's Pompeii audio tour.
The tour starts at the entrance and tells you where to walk and what each stop means.
We also took a Naples food tour (we love tours!!), which was better than we expected. We took the tour with Food Tours of Naples, our tour guide was a local and knew the restaurants inside and out, I mean her uncle was our waiter at one restaurant! She spoke about the churches in the area, informed us on the history of 'pasta alla putanesca' and fried pizza.
Below is a quick snapshot of some of the food we ate, from pizza (of course) to pasta, gelato and lemoncello.
We had pizza at a few different places, from Sobrillo, to Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba, which is the oldest pizzeria in Naples. Pizza pies were under 10 Euro, awesome prices and amazing pizza.
On our last full day in Naples, after eating our way through the city, we took a day trip to the beautiful island of Capri!
We booked the trip online from a pamphlet provided by the hotel. The trip included a lunch, a trip to the top of the island, about an hour of free time to shop around and all transportation. We were also able to go inside the blue grotto. It is not a guaranteed trip on the tour as it all depends on the lines to get on the little boats since the tour is timed. Capri is a place I would love to go to again, maybe staying a few nights there to relax. Also a day trip from Naples could be done on your own as well, but this trip just made it easy on getting around and learned a few things along the way. Loved Capri!

Walking through the small designer filled alleys of Capri.

Taking a break from the tour to enjoy a few drinks and people watching.

On the tiny boat to enter the blue grotto

Gorgeous! The boat was moving a little too much to take a good picture on my phone.
