After our three night in we took a short flight to Rome. The flight was set with our initial package booked on European Destinations. We stayed at the Veneto Palace Hotel, it was centrally located and also near by a few metro stops that shortened the walk from the Spanish Steps.

Inside our room:

On the first day we walked the cobbled streets of Rome, explored new areas like Trastevere and sampled little Italian treats.

This was the merto stop around the corner from our hotel.

Italian treat, arancini. Its a fried rice ball stuffed with mozzarella cheese. yumm!

Standing on top of the Spanish Steps over looking Rome.

My favorite place to people watch and shop. The street in the middle is lined with high end designers, its called Via Dei Condotti.

Walking down the Spanish Steps.

Entering Vatican City.

Planning out our day at a small cafe near the hotel.

Enjoying gelato from Giolitti (the oldest gelateria in Rome I believe)while walking around and exploring Rome.

Day 2 we visited Vatican City and the Vatican Museum, we also went to Trastevere for dinner.

We had dinner at a cute little restaurant called Settembrini Cafe. We started with a refreshing wine, and a meat platter with imported Spanish chorizo and ham. I had the risotto and it was absolutely amazing, very creamy and light with fresh cheese on top.

Day 3: Exploring Rome

Keeping with the church theme from yesterday's trip to the Vatican, today we explored Arcibasilica di San Giovanni (San Giovanni in Laterno).

Across the street is Scala Sancta, the stairs Jesus walked. They open only during the day and people usually walk up or crawl up the 28 marble stairs. We went while it was closed but the doors are open and you can get a good look inside.

We walked around on our own, stopping at little cafe's. Walked in to a few fancy stores, and ate at a to go pasta shop. We got a pasta with red sauce and a white wine and ate near the Spanish steps.

At night we took a night tour of the Colosseum with Walks of Italy. That tour was the highlight of being in Rome! I have been to and done the Colosseum tour during the way a few times and this tour is truly one of a kind. You get to go under the Colosseum and walk down the same paths the gladiators walked, very cool.

Illy coffee treats from random cafes.

Drinks from Laduree while shopping near Via Dei Condotti

Walking to Trastevere

Walks of Italy Colosseum by night tour.

After the tour we enjoyed a late night dinner in Trastevere. Trastevere is a booming area, with more cafe's and restaurants. We probably need a week just to explore this area and eat at all of the places here. It's a younger more local crowed but filled with tourists while we were there.

The Roman dish of dishes... Cacio e Pepe!

Spaghetti all' amatriciana

A little wine with dinner.

Day 4: Off to Naples! Home of the pizza!!
