It's all Greek to me!

This past summer my boyfriend and I had the chance to add another country to our list and visited Greece for the first time. In researching were to go and where to book, I discovered a new booking site, European Destinations. It's very similar to Expedia, but the prices are much more reasonable. When picking multiple destinations it will included flights to other destinations or train tickets. In our case we were visiting other countries as well so it included other flights, and trains. Our flight from LAX had a stop in Canada for about 3-4 hours and then straight to Athens. The site lets you pick different flights and hotels if you cant to change, and of course the prices change as well.
We stayed at Marina Athens Hotel for 3 nights. Three nights was just about right for us.
The hotel was conveniently located to Monastiraki square, and Acropolis. To put it into perspective below is a map of the area, the hotel is located between #58 & 60. Almost everything is walking distance!!!

Cafe lined streets of Athens.

Greek Frapes at a cafe by our hotel, the restaurant across the street was actually on our food tour. We got lucky!

Walking around Athens.

We visited the Acropolis, the surrounding monuments, and the Acropolis museum. We used the red buses to hop on and hop off where ever we wanted, we used it as a taxi. We took one and visited a near by island. This was the only time during our trip where the language barrier was an obstacle and kind of had us worried. We got in a taxi to the port, to get on the boat, but instead the taxi driver understood airport. The driver drove a good while before we realized we were going too far away from the water. We eventually made it to the port, the driver felt so bad and didn't want to charge us for the misunderstanding, we paid him by force, he was so nice!

Being a tourist around Athens. Bring comfortable shoes as there is a long walk up the hill to get to the ruins. These sandals were the best.

The Acropolis Museum, you can see the ruins from inside.

The boat we took to the island from Athens.

No air ventilation :(

We rented quads to ride around the island :)

Crystal clear water! <3

All over the island there are small spots where you can rent lounges and they provide a small menu to order food from.

Fresh grilled octopus and tzatziki dip

Taking a dip in the Aegean Sea.

We also did a food tour which we booked on Viator (same tour here). The tour was great, we started with a staple Greek pretzel style street bread, walked through a fish market and a farmers market. Had some small dishes and tastings at 5-6 different stops, our tour guide was very charismatic and informative.
Although the 3 nights that we had in Athens were perfect for us at the time, I would love to go back and explore more! I know there is still so much to see we only took a small chip off the top.
