Cancun is the perfect vacation for relaxation. We spent about 7 nights at the Royal Sands All Inclusive Resort, they also have 2 other sister resorts in the area in which we were able to use the pools and restaurants. We spent almost every day hanging by the pool and having a few drinks at the swim up bar. This was my first time at an all inclusive resort and I was a little apprehensive about the quality of the food, but I have to say this resort and it's sister resorts where we ate exceeded both mine and my boyfriends expectations. Our favorite place for dinner was El Conquistador, which is one of the sister resorts, Royal Islander. We probably went three times for dinner, we had the stuffed mushrooms and a shrimp dish each time. Transportation was provided by the hotel and they had specific pick up and drop off times, we also set our reservations with the front desk. Meals at each of the sister resort restaurants were all included as part of the all inclusive package.
We did a few activities while we were there, but leaving plenty of down time to enjoy the resort. We explored the Mayan ruins at Chichen Izta, took a trip to the Xplor Park, enjoyed a Coco Bongo show and took a quick trip to Isla Mujers. We booked the Chichen Izta and Xplor trip directly in the hotel, the prices were the same as online and both had direct pickup from the hotel which made it convenient for us. We don't have a Gopro and I regret not buying one for this trip. We definitely needed a Gopro to capture the fun at Xplor.
It's very easy to get around in Cancun, we took a taxi once from the hotel to the Coco Bongo area where they are lots of bars, restaurants and clubs, the taxi fair was reasonable but more than the bus. While at the pool one day we over heard a couple talking about taking the bus for 5 pesos or so. So the next night we went out we took the bus and it was about 4-5 pesos each way, so we took the bus for all our outing around town. The bus was safe, mainly tourists and hotel workers going to work were on it.
I booked the trip on Expedia, with flight and shuttle included in late August. The flights had a stop in Mexico City for about 1-2 hours each way. The weather was hot and humid, perfect for the beach but pretty uncomfortable when walking around and exploring Chichen Izta. But I still loved every minute of it. I think i will try the spring time or early summer next time.
